Trustees & Directors

Terri-edit

Terri

Director

I am one the three Directors for the community hub. My first involvement was as a volunteer helping out with the school uniform events in 2022. I then became a Director in January 2023, when Tiptree Community Hub officially launched. My main role is fundraising and overseeing the running of the community hub.

My background experience is in Early Years and I work for a Local Authority as an advisor and trainer with responsibility for safeguarding, leadership and management and recruitment and retention in the Early Years sector. I have also been involved on various charitable committees and enjoy working in the voluntary sector. I love the work we do at the hub and seeing the community come together to make a difference.

Alana

Director

I have been involved with the hub since the summer of 2022 and am one of the Directors. I got involved because I love the idea of repurposing waste and in my spare time you will find me buying second hand clothes and upcycling furniture. My day job is working in Learning Disability services in the NHS in a quality improvement role and I also have a background in Learning Disability Nursing and HR. I love volunteering with people who share similar values and am grateful that we have been able to bring something of value to the community that also has a positive environmental impact.

Ruth

Director

I am one the three director of the Community Hub and have been involved since the summer of 2022 when a small group of us first looked at redistributing food that would otherwise be wasted.

My main role is managing the finances but I also volunteer at the hub, particularly in the kitchen. I retired from being a vicar with 7 parishes in Suffolk in early 2020 and moved to Tiptree at the beginning of the first Covid lockdown. I have also worked in computer support and software development in the financial services sector and also on a helpline for a horse-feed company.

As well as being involved with the Community Hub, I also volunteer with Tiptree Churches Foodbank and regularly lead worship in the parish churches of surrounding villages.

I am passionate about building community, supporting the disadvantaged in our society and caring for the environment, so Tiptree Community Hub ticks all the boxes for me!

Maurice

Trustee

I have lived in the village for just over 3 years and began as a volunteer soon after the hub opened as I'm a passionate advocate of preventing food waste. I am semi-retired and work for an Essex based mental health charity.

The hub is now an established part of the community and I am happy to help it grow both in the numbers of families we help support and the services we can provide

Hub Coordinator

Jayne Mathias-Hens

Hub Coordinator

Originally from Swansea , South Wales I moved out to Tiptree, from London 18 years ago with a young family. After running a successful Baby signing franchise throughout Essex, I settled for a teaching job local a primary school. I began volunteering at the community hub in January 2023, and loved the whole ethos behind the Community Fridge, and am passionate about preventing food waste.

It's grown so much since then and when the position of Hub Coordinator came up in November 2023, I jumped at the chance. This past year has been fantastic and the hub has changed beyond recognition, now offering so much more than surplus food, activities and groups.  Training with the Alzheimer's society earlier this year in order to deliver a singing for the brain group at the hub has been especially close to my heart.
